Local students creating the two best essays will win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 13-20, 2013. Participants are required to submit a 500-word essay on one of the following subjects: 1. Electricity is often taken for granted, yet it was considered by many to be a luxury only 75 years ago! Discuss the ways, both big and small, that electric service impacts your life on a daily basis. 2. “Our Energy, Our Future” . . . What does this statement mean to you? Discuss your view on the energy challenges that face our nation and your local community. 3. Georgia EMCs began offering “Green Power” to their consumers in 2003. What is Green Power, and how will it affect us in the future? Please note: students must be in the 10th or 11th grade to enter the contest and must be 16 years old before June 14. To get a taste of what’s in store for our winners, feel free to check out this video from Washington Youth Tour 2010: http://www.youtube.com/user/GeorgiaEMCYouthTour. All essays will be due to the EMC by March 15. If you plan to enter, please e-mail us at alott@utility.org for more information. |
